Should I get ActiveTarget or ActiveTarget 2?

ActiveTarget 2 is the current-generation product with improved image resolution, better target separation, and updated processing compared to the original ActiveTarget. If you are installing new live sonar, ActiveTarget 2 is typically the better choice for the improved image quality. If you already have original ActiveTarget and it is working well for your fishing style, upgrading to ActiveTarget 2 is a marginal improvement rather than a transformative one.
